Brooklyn Rundfunk Orkestrata Retools ‘The Sound of Music’ L low marriage dress
Peter Kiesewalter of the Brooklyn Rundfunk Orkestrata knows that re-imaginging the songs of ‘The Sound of Music’ as the band’s debut recording, ‘The Hills Are Alive,’ may be a morsel mysterious, but he has his reasonings.
"I know it’s an absurd project to unleash as your debut recording, but in variant direction, I think it’s variety of absolute," he tells PopEater. "I think it too shows what this group is all about, which is playing a wide and wide order of genres with a wide series of guest artists. That’s going to be the model we persist from here on."
Kiesewalter, author of the Orkestratra, explains how the project came to be. "It was an accident," he says. "I thought for [our] premier show … let’s do a vacation show, but let’s no do what everyone does as a holiday show which is activity holiday music or some variation there of with ‘Jingle Bells’ and Santa caps. I said, ‘Why don’t we melodrama all the songs from ‘The Sound of Music’?'"
Despite some potential legal issues — the dulcet falls below a assorted copyright classification than additional recordings — Kiesewalter got the agreement from the Rodgers & Hammerstein possession and made a record that sounds quite different from the music you adored as a child.
"The story of the Von Trapp kin is quintessentially an American anecdote of immigration of folk escaping some arrange of cruelty, coming to the new world and starting a fashionable life," Kiesewalter opines. "I thought the songs would behalf from a retelling using indigenous American music forms."
Taking cues from jazz, country, rock, bebop and others, the BRO built an fully new way to enjoy the soundtrack. In an instance, they sacrificed up ‘Do Re Mi’ with the Jackson 5′s ‘ABC,’ a pairing that couldn’t be more perfect. "I’m not the biggest flare of mashups," Kiesewalter adds, "but that equitable hit me like a brick. I could not withstand doing that."
But don’t mistake Kiesewalter’s work as a critique of melodramatic music. "I have highest respect for these guys as composers and lyricists."
Will the Orkestrata do something like this afresh? "No, I can’t. I don’t want to get pigeonholed as the band that does kooky editions of musicals. That said, this orchestra will do material with renowned repertoire."

I mostly like this. Great modern interpretation, vocals and preparation. Unfortunately, it should have been edited in half. Second half is a muddle.
